Description | Deep round basket with flat base and very slightly flaring sides; Base is woven in alternating rows of plain twining and simple plaiting, with single row of 3-strand twining along juncture of base and sides; Sides are woven primarily in plain twining, except for 4.5 cm wide band around lower sides and 3.0 cm wide band just below rim, both of which have occasional diagonally twined stitches, producing decorative patterns of parallel vertical zigzag lines; Primary designs are woven of dyed bear grass leaves in a false embroidery stitch and consist of 2 large bear images in purple and maroon and 2 large salmon images in purple and red that are arranged in a single wide band around the midsection of the basket; Main design band is framed above and below by single rows of 3-strand twining of undyed spruce root. | |
