Description | Small round basket with flat base and flaring sides, woven entirely in plain twining technique except for single row of 3-strand twining along juncture of base and sides and along rim; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Designs are woven of dyed black bear grass leaves in a false embroidery technique, and consist of 2 narrow parallel bands around sides of basket, each comprising a rectilinear meandering motif; Wefts on lower half of basket are darker than on the upper half and may have been selected for decorative effect. | |
