Description | Handheld rattle consisting of cylindrical wooden handle (painted red) and inserted through round gourd and secured with wooden peg and string wrapping; Remnant portions of red, black, and yellow (?) painted designs on gourd include 4 terraced triangles (clouds?), tri-lobed floral motif, and 2 encircling lines with single and paired tick marks; Collected by American artist Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) in early 1900s. | |
