Description | Young boy’s dance kilt in the form of a rectangular panel woven of hand spun cotton in a balanced plainweave technique; Embroidered at either end of the panel is a decorative panel of red, green and black geometric motifs, including rectangles, straight-edged and terraced triangles, and negative crosses; Narrow black line is also embroidered along entire top edge of kilt; Black knitted band is sewn along bottom edge of kilt; Short white cotton and black wool tassels decorate all four corners; Collected by American artist Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) prior to 1940. | |
