Tanned leather beaded with lazy stitch technique attached to backing of stiff rawhide; Beaded pattern in red and blue of equilateral triangles with stepped diagonal lines extending down from lower apices; Small bands extend upward from other apices; Background is white; Cowrie shells and short quill wrapped hide slats attached below beaded panel; Quills are dyed red and white and are tipped with tin cones and blue-dyed feathers; Yellow dyed horsehair affixed to rawhide backing with hide laces; Another hide lace attached at top; Collected by American artist Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) prior to 1940. |
