| Description | Miniature jar with very narrow diameter base, rounded lower body whose sides flare upward and outward to a below mid-level height shoulder and then rise gradually forming a tall cylindrical neck; Rim form is straight with rounded lip; Interior is scraped smooth; Exterior is scraped smooth and highly polished and burnished; Background areas of the design band that encircles jar’s shoulder are painted with a gray slip, forming a negative Avanyu or feathered serpent motif, shown with a lightning bolt in its mouth; Jar is reduction fired to a black-on-black color; Artist’s signature “Dolores Curran Santa Clara” is inscribed on based. Dolores Curran is the ex-wife of Alvin Curran and the mother of Ursula Curran, both of whose works are represented in the CAS collections. | |
