| Description | Miniature round shallow plate with flat base and flaring sides; Interior and exterior surfaces are scraped very smooth, coated with a slip, and highly burnished; Negative image of Avanyu or feathered serpent encircles interior of bowl and is accomplished by painting the background area with matte black slip; Center of bowl is undecorated; Plate is reduction fired to achieve black-on-black color; Signature “Dolores Curran Santa Clara” is very lightly inscribed on base. Dolores Curran is the ex-wife of Alvin Curran and the mother of Ursula Curran, both of whose works are represented in the CAS collections. | |
