Description | Small round basket with flat base, flaring sides, and recessed rim, along with corresponding round, domed lid with low sides that fit over basket's rim; Warp material is rye grass stems; Basket start in center of base is woven in simple plaiting technique, using rye grass stems as both the warp and weft, followed by several rows of plain twining, using raffia grass leaves as the weft; Outer portion of base, sides, and entire lid are woven in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Single narrow cedar bark splint encircles top of basket, forming the recessed rim, over which the warps are bent and bound into the final row of twining; Designs are woven of dyed weft fiber and include single-row parallel bands in pale green, bright pink, and bright green around lower side of basket and two purple dugout canoes, each carrying four men; Several motifs are positioned between the canoes, but they are too faded to identify; Designs on lid include purple circle in center with appended green and pink triangles, encircled by band of small pink and green triangles on top of lid, and parallel pink and green bands on sides of lid. | |
