| Description | Tall, cylindrical jar with narrow flattened base and rounded underbody and sides that rise vertically to rim, with slight constriction at mid-level heights; Interior and exterior surfaces are scraped smooth; Decorative clay band or “fillet” encircles exterior of jar just below rim and is decorated with series of diagonal incised strokes; Interior and exterior surfaces are coated with piñon pitch after firing to make the jar waterproof and shiny; Overall color is rust brown with several large black fireclouds. Zonnie Barlow is the mother of Betty Manygoats and the grandmother of Rita and Elizabeth Manygoats, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS pottery collection. | |
