Description | Round shallow basket with flat base and flaring sides, woven entirely in coiled technique over bundle foundation; Warp material is probably whole and split willow or sumac shoots and weft material is probably peeled and split willow or sumac shoots; Tapered rim is finished in false braid technique; Design is woven of dyed weft material and includes wide red band around mid-section (with ceremonial break in band outlined in black), framed below by band of three black quadrupeds (possibly horses or deer) and above by band of 7 black quadrupeds; Design is similar to that of a Navajo wedding basket, except with animal motifs in place of terraced triangles. | |
