Materials Rye grass (Elymus sp.) stems and leaves; Worsted wool yarn
Description Deep round basket with flat base and vertical sides, woven in open plain twining on base, lower sides, and around rim and in closed plain twining on remainder of sides; A single row of 3-strand twining is located at the juncture of the base and sides; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Warp fibers are parallel in open plain twined areas; designs on sides are woven of worsted wool yarn in false embroidery technique and consist of central band of 9 concentric terraced diamonds in green, orange and purple or in lime green, magenta, and purple; Above and below are bands of 9 checkerboard rectangles each in colors of dark blue, light blue and purple or in dark blue, yellow and purple; All 3 design bands are framed above and below by double rectilinear meandering lines, one in black and the other in rust brown; Matching domed lid has low side that overlaps rim of basket and low wide flat-topped knob handle, all woven in closed plain twining with single row of 3-strand twining along juncture of shoulder and side; Designs are similar to those on basket but in different color combinations.
