Description | Rectangular wrap-around skirt woven of very fine pandanus strips in close-spaced and open plaiting technique; Skirt is woven in two panels that are then woven together down center; Warp and weft fibers are folded over and woven back into mat along middle third of the sides, while on remainder of sides and along both ends, they extend as long fringe; plaiting technique is primarily 1/1, with series of large open weave "X" designs woven into both ends of skirt; All-over pattern of natural colored concentric diamonds on maroon red background is created with resist dye process to accentuate the open weave "X" designs. | |
