Description | Large gable mask in the form of a stylized human face that is constructed from several segments, each woven in a wickerwork technique; Face has large pronounced forehead and deep brown ridge, a long slender nose, and wide, opened mouth along the bottom; Front surface is covered with thin coating of mud in colors of black, white, and red to resemble body painting; Sides and lower perimeter of mask are decorated with bundles of cassowary and other small gray feathers. | |
