Description |
Dance mask intended to be worn over dancer's shoulders; Mask is woven in wicker technique in numerous panels that are pieced together into a conical form with large stylized human-like face on front with shell insets for eyes and decorated with shell earrings and bundles of cassowary feathers along top; Small facial cutouts below larger face allow person wearing mask to see out; Upper portion of mask is painted overall with dark and light vertical stripes; Lower perimeter of mask is decorated with pendant bundles of grass fibers to represent skirt. |
