Description Handheld rattle carved in two halves, each consisting of a oval bowl-shaped section and an elongated handle; Two two halves are probably glued together and the edges of the carved portions are tied together with cotton string in five places; Bowl-shaped portion of rattle is shallowly carved on front with humanoid face with large blue eyes with black pupils, flaring nostrils and an open mouth with bared teeth; Mouth, nostrils, and areas on cheeks and forehead are painted a dull red color; Large oval area on reverse face of rattle is carved with shallow cross-hatched lines and painted dull red, enclosed within a black framing band; Several pebbles are inside rattle to make noise.
