Description Shallow, round San Ildefonso Black-on-black plate with flat base and low, flaring sides; All surfaces are scraped smooth and coated with a slip, and highly burnished, except exterior base; Interior surface is painted with off-center geometric motif that includes positive and negative elements, including solid and hachured triangles, arrows, kiva steps (terraced triangle) and groups of parallel wavy lines; Overall motif is repeated twice and is enclosed by a single framing line just below the rim; All designs are painted in a matte gray color; Plate is reduction fired to yield black-on-black color; Signature "Rosalie + Joe" is incised on base in hand printed letters. Rosalie Simbola Aguilar and Joe Aguilar [José Angeles Aguilar] were wife and husband and the parents of Florence Aguilar Naranjo, Joe Aguilar (Jose Vincente Aguilar), and Alfred Aguilar, all of whose works are also represented in the CAS collection.
