Description | Large, deep, round basket with flat base and flaring sides that rise to a very wide mouth; Basket is woven in coiled technique over 3-rod bundles; Warp material is probably whole peeled sumac or willow shoots and weft material is natural and vegetal and/or aniline-dyed split willow shoots; Rim coil is woven in braided technique and tapers at its terminus; Design consists of two rectilinear bands that encircle the sides of the basket, the lower band in colors of green, blue, red, black, and yellow and the upper band in colors of red, blue, black, and yellow; Dyes are probably aniline, but red and yellow could be vegetal-derived; Natural-colored "spirit" line extends from center of basket up the side, terminating at the rim terminus. | |
