Description Painting on masonite entitled "Mornington Island Legend", painted in a western style and depicting the aboriginal legend of Marnbill, his wife Ging-Gin, and her uncle, Diwaliwal, the first people to inhabit Mornington Island; After the three of them named various places on the island, as well as edible plants, Marnbill found his wife and her uncle in a sexual tryst and killed the uncle; Marnbill ascended into the sky, but as he left he cursed his wife and her uncle and any children their union might produce; Depicted in this painting are two scenes, the first showing the three arriving on the island and going about naming places and plants, and the second one showing Marnbill killing his wife's uncle; Painting is inscribed "To Paul from Goobalathaldin" in lower right corner; See CAS 2005-0006-0006 for a traditional bark painting of this same legend by the same artist.
