Description Commercially made glazed white ceramic round plate imprinted on front with drawing by George Ahgupuk depicting a lone polar bear standing atop an ice floe, possibly feeding on a seal carcass; Drawing is signed “Ahgupuk” in lower right; The word “Alaska” is imprinted just below the drawing; Reverse of plate is imprinted with the manufacturer’s logo which consists of a British flag and the word “DURABILITY” written across it, and the words “WEATHERBY HANLEY ENGLAND ROYAL FALCON WARE 4-69” below the flag, all imprinted in green. [The firm of John Henry Weatherby & Sons was founded in 1891 in Tunstall and relocated the following year to Hanley in Staffordshire, England. The trademark name "Falconware" was adopted around 1925. The firm ceased operations in 2000.]
