Description Untitled pen and ink drawing on thick rectangular piece of bleached seal skin depicting two Native Alaskan men dressed in parkas, skin pants, and mukluks and each holding a long shafted spear as they face a growling polar bear near the edge of ice-choked sea in the background; The men and the bear are all on land or a large ice floe; Artist’s signature “Florence Chauncey Gambell, Alaska” is written in ink in script in lower right corner. NOTE: Chauncey Malewotkuk was the artist’s husband and she sometimes signed her name using his first name as her surname.
