Eye-dazzler Navajo-style rug, woven entirely in tapestry weave with an all-over network design of concentric serrated diamonds, each of which is formed from smaller triangles in contrasting colors, with the larger diamonds arranged in horizontal bands; Colors include black, white, maroon, dark green, pale yellow, gray-green, rust brown, beige, red, and gold; Sides of rug are bordered by row of alternating black and white triangles, and ends are bordered by row of rectangular blocks, each divided diagonally in colors of black, white, or rust brown; Twining and end cords are woven with contrasting blue wool yarns; This rug is a reproduction (with some design and color modifications) of an historic rug published as Plate 88 in Navaho Weaving: Its Technic and Its History (sic), by Charles Amsden (1934, Santa Ana, CA: The Fine Arts Press). |
