| Description | Teec Nos Pos Navajo-style rug, woven entirely in tapestry weave; Center design field contains pair of serrated diamonds, each enclosing a straight edged diamond in red and light brown and several other gold-colored elements, all on beige background and framed with narrow terraced double border in red and blue-green; Rug has extremely wide dark brown border on all four sides, embellished with bold “H’ motifs in deep gold outlined in white; Spirit lines are located in upper right corner of design field and in upper right corner of border; Twining and selvage cords are woven of matching dark brown wool yarn; This rug design is copied from a rug published in Plate 8 of Posts and Rugs by H. L. James (1976, Globe, AZ: Southwest Parks and Monuments Assoc., p. 45), and in Plate 8 of a later revised version, renamed Rugs and Posts by H. L. James (1988, West Chester, PA: Schiffer Publishing Co., p. 42); The center design was changed from the original rug to another Teec Nos Pos design, also published in Posts and Rugs (p. 46). | |
