Description Crystal Navajo-style rug, woven entirely in tapestry weave; Borderless design consists of three horizontal bands of chevrons in white and three shades of brown (dark, medium, and rust) on a light brown background, alternating with four wider plain bands, each of which actually consists of 8 or 9 narrow 2-color bands that are woven in the wavy “Crystal-style” weave; Dark brown plainweave band completes the design at each end; Twining and selvage cords are woven of contrasting dark brown wool yarns; This rug design is probably based upon a Wide Ruins style rug illustrated in Plate 25 of Posts and Rugs by H. L. James (1976: Globe, AZ: Southwest Parks and Monuments Assoc., p. 80) and in Plate 30 of the later revised version, renamed Rugs and Posts by H. L. James (1988, West Chester, PA: Schiffer Publishing Co.).
