Description | Start of round flat basket lid, woven entirely in plain twining technique; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Design consists of single maroon band with green inner and outer edges, that encircles woven portion of basket and is woven of dyed spruce roots in plain twining technique; Overlaying this band and woven in a false embroidery technique, using dyed bear grass leaves, is a series of 6 linear motifs that alternate in color between white and yellow; Portions of warp fibers extend out a maximum of 9 cm beyond woven portion of basket. NOTE: This item was most likely intended to be a lid, because the base of a basket would not have been decorated on its underside. | |
