Description | Small Navajo loom constructed of a peeled pine pole that is split in half to form two upright supports and a upper cross beam, all glued and nailed together and then nailed to a rectangular piece of chipboard; Mounted on the loom frame is a very finely woven Two Grey Hills rug (approx. half completed), showing a large central stepped diamond motif in gray, light brown, white and black on a medium brown background, with a black and white border along sides and bottom; Loom includes 1 heddle, 1 shed rod, and a small batten; Small piece of mohair hide is glued to chipboard base in imitation of mohair rugs used by Navajo weavers when sitting at their looms; Also glued to base is a small round container (made from cross-section of hollowed pine log) containing small weaving comb and miniature spindle (with spun yarn on it), and rectangular container (made from popsicle sticks) containing 5 small balls of handspun yarn of the same colors used in the rug, and 1 larger ball of handspun white yarn of the type usually used as the warp fiber in a rug. | |
