Description Small round bowl with flat base, rounded underside, and nearly vertical sides with a slightly incurving rim; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and covered with a white slip; Decorative band encircles upper sides of bowl and is divided into four panels, each painted with three columns of alternating black and white triangles; Series of four vertical black lines separate adjacent panels of triangles; Very heavy black framing line covers bowl’s lip; Artist’s signature “Lucy M. Lewis” is printed in black letting on base. Noted Acoma potter Lucy Martin Lewis is the mother of grandmother of many well-known potters. She is the mother of Anne Lewis Hansen and the mother-in-law of Rita Lewis, both of whose works are also represented in the CAS pottery
