Description | Small stylized figurine of a standing bear shown with his feet together and his head held low; All surfaces are scraped and sanded smooth; One side of the bear is decorated with three incised terraced diamond shapes, each painted with different colored clay slips (red, brown, and black); Opposite side of bear is decorated with three triangular and diamond shapes made by repeated stamping with a small triangular die stamp and then partially painted with colored slips; Entire figurine is covered with light coating of piñon pine pitch; Artist’s initial’s “LW” are incised on bottom of bear’s front feet. | |
