Description | Medium-sized round olla or water jar with concave base, flaring lower sides that expand to their maximum diameter at mid-level height, then slope inward and rise to form a wide but short neck that rises vertically; Interior and exterior surfaces are scraped smooth and exterior is sanded; Interior and exterior are covered with a white slip; Base and underbody, as well as wide band on interior of rim, are painted orange; Exterior is painted with an incredibly complex pattern of stars done in the fine-line technique; Band of small solid black triangles encircle exterior rim, hanging pendant from a solid black line along the lip; Artist’s initials “MS” and “Acoma NM” are printed in black on underside. | |
