Description | Adze blade made by pecking and grinding piece of tridacna shell to elongated oval shape that is somewhat wider at distal end; Proximal end is rounded, while distal end is tapers to a sharp point, in part due to its triangular cross-section; Pronounced median ridge extends approx. 1.8 cm back from distal end on one face only; Distal end has been ground thin on one face only to form a sharp V-shaped cutting edge; Color is off-white; For use in shaping the interior hull during canoe building, this blade would have been hafted to a wooden handle. | |
