Description | Deep cylindrical basket with rounded base and vertical slightly flared sides, woven in plain twining technique at the start, and then in diagonal twining for the remainder of the basket; Warps are bent over at rim and incorporated into reinforcing bundle that is coil-wrapped; Warp material is whole, unpeeled willow shoots and weft material is split unpeeled willow shoots that are woven with the bark side facing inward; Designs are woven of split, unpeeled red willow shoots and consist of 3 bands of alternating dark and light diagonal bars (woven of red willow with bark facing outward and other willow with bark facing inward, respectively) that encircle sides of basket; Final two rows of twining below rim are woven with the bark side of the willow facing outward; Coil wrapping on rim bundle alternates light (split willow with bark facing inward) and dark (red willow with bark facing outward) blocks of color. | |
