Description “Love stick” carved from single piece of wood, comprising an elongated stick that is biconvex in cross-section, with a median ridge down the entire length on both faces; Proximal end of stick is relatively plain, while the remainder (approx. 60%) is carved with series of sharp barbs along both lateral edges, and a sharp point at the distal end; Entire stick has been stained a reddish brown color; According to donor, “Legend has it that a young man would show the stick to his intended so that she could recognize him. In the evening he would push the stick through the thatch wall of the house and she, after seeing the pattern carved on the stick, would either accept or reject his intentions.”
