3-dimensional carving of a human figure, possibly a pregnant woman, shown standing on one leg; Entire figure is stained black; Flattened figure has a large head, whose face is stained a light brown color and facial features (ears and eyes) are very shallowly carved; Eyes are inset with shells, and short native fiber rope is tied through nose; Figure’s body is depicted by a series of parallel crescent shapes that enclose a second human head; Series of shallowly carved crescent shapes outline the figure’s back and continue down its leg and are alternately stained light brown and rust brown; Although carved 3-dimensionally, this figure is intended to be viewed 2-dimensionally. |
