Description | Small rectangular rug (partially woven) and still attached to loom anchor bars and single heddle rod; Rug is woven entirely in plain weave tapestry technique with non-interlocking joins; Design consists single cross motif in center, which actually comprises a series of concentric crosses in colors of bright green, yellow, black, and red, on black and white salt and pepper background, and rectangle (gold and maroon at bottom and plain maroon at top) in each corner; All but final 4 cm of rug has been woven, leaving the underlying warps exposed, as textiles of this type were woven for sale as souvenir items; Rug lacks the side selvage cords typical of most Navajo rugs. | |
