Description Rectangular tapa cloth cut from larger cloth and made from several layers of bark that have been individually beaten flat and then overlapped to form a single cloth; All edges have been trimmed fairly straight; Design includes Fa'a vae tuli (sand piper footprints) with smaller elements like the flight of birds; The design field is divided into eight large rectangular blocks, each with the same repeating design motif; Each rectangular design block is bordered laterally by three thinner design columns, displaying geometric motifs of pigmented and negative triangle and diamond elements, with a thinner, middle column of pigmented crosshatches; The middle of each design column exhibits two large “X” shapes, with a smaller “V” mirroring the shape on either lateral side, and short, thick, pigmented parallel lines proximally and distally; These middle segments of the motif blocks are bordered by a line of small, pigmented diamond shapes; Each rectangular design block is bordered by a thick black line; Entire design field is bordered by a thicker black line.
