Large round jar with flat base and flaring lower body; Interior and exterior are scraped smooth and coated with a slip; Sides of rounded lower body rise to a below-midlevel shoulder, then taper inward and upward forming a wide, vertical neck with round mouth; Decorative band encircling jar’s lower neck contains negative feather motif; Two parallel lines encircle shoulder just below feather band; Exterior is highly burnished; Jar was reduction-fired to to yield a black-on-black design; Signed “Blue Corn San Ildefonso Pueblo” on bottom. |
