Description 3-dimensional carved figure representing Laguna Gambler katsina, also known as Qogole katsina (“Marble Player” or “Gambler”); Face is turquoise with vertical decorative bands of red and yellow, a protruding black eagle-like beak, horizontal, slightly triangular black eyes, and protruding white rectangular ears with black X’s; Cluster of small white feathers at the crown of head; A hood of carved white feathers extends behind the head, decorated in brown and yellow; Body is carved to represent a small corn cob with bright green husk and exposed kernels in both front and back; In the front, the right half of the kernels are painted red and the left half white, while in the back the right half are blue and the left half yellow; Figure stands on a large round squat black base, with a band of turquoise and maroon triangles outlined on top and bottom by white scalloped design; Qogole katsinam are often seen decorated in many different colors, with the colors representing cardinal directions; Unsigned.
