Description Shulawitsi or Cholawitze – Zuni Fire God katsina; 3-dimensional figure in standing action pose (knees bent, bent forward at the waist); The figure’s body (except for the hands, which are painted white with red designs) is painted black with white, red, yellow, and blue polka dots; The figure’s eyes are painted blue, its protruding ears are painted red, and its snout (which is broken) is painted white, red, and blue; On top of the figure’s head is a carved, white feather (which is broken); The figure wears a ruff that matches the body paint, a black breechclout with red and green line design and blue waistband, reddish-brown moccasins, and a bracelet on each wrist; The figure carries a bow in its left hand and a red and blue painted arrow in its right; On the figure’s back is a quiver that is painted with a red, white, and black design and full of arrows; The figure is standing on an unpainted, circular wooden base; Signature on the bottom of the base reads “Ernest Chapella Shulawitsi”.
