Traditional women’s headdress, or shushut, from Northwest Pakistan; Long headdress woven primarily of thick brown wool; The top band of the headdress sits around the head, allowing the long decorative panel to hang from the back of the head; The top band is decorated all around with cowry shells, metallic chain, and small beads, with a top border of beading in a floral pattern; The long panel that extends from the band is decorated primarily with small orange, yellow and red beads in chevron patterns; Panel is also embellished with cowry shell “flowers”, small white buttons, and metal bells; At the bottom the wool of the warp extends as long fringe. |
