Description | Pair of miniature one-man kayak models carved entirely of ivory, including a Pacific Eskimo example with bifurcated stern and a Bering Sea or Nunivak Island example with a large round handhold on the bow; small ivory kayaker figure is positioned in each kayak, each having articulated arms that are grasping elongated single bladed paddles; Two small carved ivory seals may have originally been positioned on kayaks (one behind each kayaker) by means of small hole in kayakers’ backs; Kayaks are mounted on flat rectangular wooden base by means of small wooden pegs. | |
