Description | Fishing dart consisting of a long cylindrical wooden shaft with a slightly expanded distal end that is carved with three equally spaced longitudinal grooves measuring approx. 14 cm long and each fitted with an elongated dart point fashioned from a long bone splinter; Each dart point is somewhat cylindrical in cross-section, tapered to a point at each end, and carved along the inside edge with a series of triangular, downward curving barbs; Dart points are secured to shaft with a open coil wrapping of plied sinew cordage which stretches along length of shaft approx. 2/3 of its length toward proximal end, where it terminates in another series of coils around the shaft. | |
