Description Shield carved from single piece of wood with overall oval shape that tapers at both ends and is concave-convex in cross section with well defined central median ridge running along entire length; conical boss in center front of shield is carved to resemble a horn; Front and back of shield are overlaid with narrow cane strips that pass from front to back through small holes around perimeter and along central median ridge; Cane strips are coil wrapped at regular intervals by additional strips that also pass from front to back as they wrap each cane strip, forming vertical rows perpendicular to canes; Strip of hide is sewn along perimeter of shield; Bundle of sticks whose ends are pegged through shield are wrapped with cane and form central handle on reverse.
