Description | Large round shallow basket with rounded base and widely flaring sides, woven in coiled technique over bundle foundation; Warp material is split cattail stems and primary weft material is peeled and split willow shoots; Designs are woven of black devil's claw pods and include a solid black circular area covering the entire base; Design motif on sides consists of stack of 3 horizontal segmented lines on lower sides and 3 slightly longer but similar lines to the left and on upper sides with the two groupings linked by 3 lines of diagonally stacked triangles, with the overall motif repeated 5 times to give the appearance of a whirling pattern; Final rim coil is woven entirely of black devil's claw in a false braid stitch. | |
