| Description | Deep round basket with flat, rectangular base and slightly flaring sides that rise to an oval rim; Basket is woven entirely in simple plaiting technique, except for single row of plain twining immediately below rim; At the rim the warp fibers are bent over and woven in a diagonal stitch to bind them into a coil-wrapped reinforcing bundle of cedar bark that encircles the interior of the rim; Warp and weft fibers are cedar bark slats; Designs are woven of dyed black cedar bark slats and consist of 6 parallel checkerboard bands that encircle sides of basket (3 on lower sides and 3 on upper sides). | |
