Description Small round basket with flat base and vertical sides and corresponding flat-topped round lid with low sides; Warp material throughout basket and lid is cedar bark; Start of basket on base is woven in simple plaiting technique using cedar bark slats for both warp and weft; Most of the base is woven in plain twining technique, using rye grass stems as the weft; Sides of basket are woven primarily in wrapped twining technique, using bear grass leaves as the weft; Final cm below rim is woven in plain twining technique, using cedar bark as the weft; Warps are bent over at rim and bound into final row of twining; Lid is woven entirely in wrapped twining technique; All designs are woven of dyed bear grass and include a single row of alternating yellow and dark blue fibers along base of sides, band of small yellow diagonal dashes on dark blue background around lower side, purple zigzag band around mid-section of side, round purple area in center of lid encircled by dark blue zigzag band, and a second band of small yellow diagonal dashes on dark blue background around sides of lid; Twining up to rim instead of use of cedar splint indicates early date for this basket.
