Description | Cylindrical carrying basket with flat base and vertical sides, woven entirely in open plain twining; Warp and weft material is rye grass stems; Throughout basket the warps are paired, with the fibers in each pair diverted either to the left or right (no consistently on base) in each succeeding row of twining; Warps are braided at rim forming a scalloped rim and also incorporated into heavier looped braid just above rim that is connected at midpoint of each scallop on rim; Basket appears to never have had a carrying strap; Basket is completely undecorated, except for double row of exposed, crossed warps just below rim. | |
