Description | Small rectangular basket with flat base and flaring sides that rise to a wide, rectangular mouth with rounded corners; Basket is woven entirely in coiled technique over a bundle foundation; Warp material is cedar splints and primary weft material is cedar roots; Designs are woven in imbrication technique, using undyed bear grass leaves and natural (red) or mud-dyed (black) cherry bark, and consist of 3 encircling bands of small cross motifs, each with a bear grass center but alternating in outer colors between red and black; Final rim coil is also decorated with a stream of undyed bear grass leaves that is woven in ribbon beading technique. | |
