Description | Hanging brass, oil burning menorah or chanukiah, a ceremonial lamp lit during Chanukah ceremonies, consisting of a row of 8 small oil reservoirs (each with a wick spout) set into rectangular drip pan and held in place with pins; Upright openwork back panel of lamp is in shape of a stylized temple or architectural feature and includes two hinged side flaps that can be latched with small hooks; Back panel also includes a 9th oil reservoir, the shamash ("helper" or "servant" - the light from which the others are lit), which is suspended on the back panel with a small toggle and secured with pin. | |
