Description | Round bentwood bucket whose side seam is sewn with baleen; Wooden insert base has image of whale carved in low relief on interior, with clear quartz crystal embedded in the whale's back; Large hole drilled through from exterior of base extends through interior whale carving, allowing light to pass from the underside through the quartz crystal in the whale carving; Ivory handle has 3 small whale images carved along its length and it is supported on side posts in the form of whale flukes that are attached to rim of bucket with baleen lashings; Also attached at rim at end of handle is pair of ivory chains with final links in shape of whale flukes or possibly harpoon heads (?). | |
