Description Aluminum mess kit, U.S. Army issue 1918, consisting of a tin with a shallow bowl and hinged handle, and a top which fits snugly onto the tin; A lightweight knife, fork and spoon fit into the tin; The tin’s handle folds back over the top to snap onto the far edge of the tin, securing the kit; Each of the 5 pieces has the owner’s name, “LIEUT. A.L. LIEBES”, stamped crudely onto it; “U.S. 1918” is stamped onto the end of the tin’s handle, and “U.S.” is stamped onto the front of the handle of each utensil; Each utensil has an additional stamp on the back of the handle: “L.F. & C. 1917” (knife), “WB/W 1918” (fork), “WB/W 1917” (spoon); A: Tin; B: Top; C: Knife; D: Fork; E: Spoon.
