Description Very large and deep round basket with flat base and slightly flaring sides, woven entirely in plain twining technique except for single row of 3-strand twining at junction of base and sides; Warp and weft material is spruce roots; Series of 9 concentric bands on base are woven in plain twining using dyed green, purple, red, and dark brown spruce roots, alternating with bands of undyed spruce root between them; Row of 3-strand twining is also of dyed red spruce roots; Pair of 3-row bands along lower sides are woven in false embroidery, using dyed red and purple bear grass leaves; 2 wide and 1 narrow band encircle basket around midsection, with the background of the wider bands woven in plain twining and comprising alternating red and purple bands, all between upper and lower green framing lines; On exterior of these are series of alternating red and straw-colored angular "S" shapes, all in false embroidery; Narrower band between the 2 wider false embroidered bands is also woven in false embroidery and shows series of small rectangles that form a terraced zigzag, flanked by red terraced triangles, with the overall band framed between plain twined bands in purple and orange; Narrow false embroidered band in dyed purple and red and undyed bear grass encircles rim; Double pair of cordage ties on upper sides secured tumpline (section of wool yarn rope is attached).
